A large format richly illustrated book about works of art in the David Roche Collection. Each work of art is illustrated and discussed in a scholarly essay written by experts in the field. There is also a biography of David Roche.
David J Roche AM (1930–2013) spent his lifetime developing what has become The David Roche Collection (Adelaide, South Australia). The collection, which spans the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and includes European furniture, ceramics, metal ware, clocks and paintings, is remarkable in its quality and range. It contains many luxury works by leading designers displaying exquisite workmanship, as well as the quirky and playful, and as such reflects the many interests and engaging personality of its creator.
Curator and art advisor Jane Messenger contributed essays to the collection publication on the following artists: Jean-Baptiste Santerre (France 1657-1717), Jakob Bogdany (Hungary/Britain c. 1660-1724), Francis Cotes (Britain 1726-70), George Dawe (Britain 1781-1829), Robert-Jacques François Lefèvre (France 1755-1830), François-Edouard Picot (France 1786-1868), Edward Landseer (Britain 1802-73), Frank Calcroft Turner (Britain active 1810-46), Maud Earl (Britain/America 1864-1943) and Frederic Leighton (Britain 1830-96).
